SPECIFIC POLICY STATEMENT REGARDING I.P. NUMBERS AND OTHER IDENTIFIERS
Given the controversial subject matter of this site, we acknowledge that some visitors may prefer not to have any identifying information about them kept on file. We are sensitive to this concern and have instituted several measures to ensure that visits to this platform are entirely anonymous:
We take the following steps to accomplish this:
- first, we disable IP collection wherever possible;
- second, we directly prevent IP data from being written to log files;
- third, any files that could contain IP data are wiped clean every few minutes;
- fourth, we routinely scan our databases and blast any errant IP data that may exist;
- fifth, we give clear and easy-to-implement security recommendations for end users;
- sixth, we have located our servers in hard-to-penetrate jurisdictions around the world;
- seventh, we store only absolutely necessary information and only for as long as necessary.
Here are additional steps you can take to hide your footprints:
- clear your browser cache, search and internet history, including cookies after each visit;
- never bookmark or earmark pages;
- do not reproduce text or images directly from the platform, link instead;
- create a fictitious e-mail address for registration purposes (we don’t care).
RUNNINGAWAY.CA (FOUNDATION) PRIVACY POLICY
- This is http://www.runningaway.ca (the “Platform”), brought to you by Friends of Two Awesome Kids Foundation (the “Foundation”).
- Accounts, Comments, etc. When visitors sign up, subscribe, leave comments or otherwise provide information to the platform, we collect that information. We enact specific and exhaustive measures to conceal IP addresses and other identifying information. We encourage visitors to use false or fictitious information to protect their privacy. An anonymized string created from the e-mail address you choose (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service, if you elect to use it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture (that you stipulate), if you have one, is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
- Online Ordering. Visitors who elect to order product through the platform must use their real information when doing so to avoid payments being rejected, products being shipped incorrectly, etc; however, all information used for this purpose is deleted once the order is fulfilled, except for the e-mail address and name for follow-up purposes.
- Specific Collection of Information: Register of Limited Prints. The personal information of visitors who purchase limited prints (name, mailing address, other contact information, serials of artwork purchased, etc) is entered into a register that is kept offline and outside of Canada. This is for purposes of authenticating the serialized artwork. Your personal information will never be disclosed without your consent (e.g. you wish to sell artwork and require authentication).
- Media. If you upload images to the platform, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors can extract location data from images on the platform.
- Cookies. The platform uses cookies to enhance your interaction – e.g. remember passwords. Cookies are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again and again when using the platform. These cookies will last for one year unless you delete them. If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed. Some of your preferences are stored in cookies. You can determine for yourself what, if any, cookies you wish to allow and which ones to reject.
- Embedded Content, Other Websites. Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc) from other websites. This content behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. It is up to you to safeguard against undesired practices.
- Sharing Data. If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset e-mail for your security. This information is not logged on our end, so once you delete the e-mail, that information is gone.
- Retention. If you comment, it is retained indefinitely – even if not approved for publish. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderator queue. Any information you provide as part of your account may be published in the context of the comments you make. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Platform operators can also see and edit that information.
- Digital Rights. If you have an account on this site that personally identifies you, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. Your request must be made in print, include a copy of government-issued, photo identification, scanned and e-mailed to friends@runningaway.ca with the subject Digital Rights.
- Moderator. All data submitted to this platform may be checked manually, or through automated detection systems, and may be rejected. Whether or not to accept or publish data is at the sole option and discretion of the operator; however, in saying this, the operators and the Foundation can only exercise its best effort.
Questions or comments about this policy should be directed to the Foundation at friends@runningaway.ca.
